Truck load of fun for Mission Christmas

Truck load of fun for Mission Christmas

Hundreds of children and families across the region came out to help launch Mission Christmas on Saturday 14th November and saw Santa Claus like never before, driving a 44-foot articulated lorry.
The truck, provided by Simpson Bros of Birtley part of the APC Overnight network, was donated to charity Cash for Kids to help launch their annual Christmas appeal and was spectacularly branded on one full side while it toured the North East.

The roadshow made stops at five B & M Stores, who are the sponsoring partner of the campaign, at Blyth, Jarrow, Consett, Washington and Sunderland. At each stop, Metro Radio were on site to play Christmas music, there were fairy-tale princesses from Let it Snow Productions and a snow machine while Santa and charity mascot Courage the Cat met the crowds.

The Mission Christmas campaign runs each year to make sure no child gets forgotten at Christmas. Toys are given to children who are at risk of receiving no presents at all including those suffering from neglect or abuse, those living in poverty or from families who are struggling to cope.
Last year Cash for Kids distributed gifts to around 40,000 children in this region and this year the demand is even higher.

Children and families turned up in their hundreds to enjoy the fun, many of them buying toys at the B & M Stores and donating it to the campaign. Accompanying the truck was also the Mission Christmas van, donated by Benfield, who are also the campaign text sponsor. £5 text donations can be made by texting the word HAPPY to 70808.

Debbie Craig, Cash for Kids Events Co-ordinator, said: “We want to say a big thank you to Simpson Bros and their driver for all of their support for the launch. Huge thanks to sponsors B & M and text sponsor Benfield for backing this fantastic campaign. Thanks also to all of the people who donated toys over the weekend, the amount of toys we collected was incredible. Please continue to give us your support so no child goes without this Christmas.”
